Well organized and lots of on-course entertainment and water. The expo was small as I kind of knew it was going to be like that , but they did have some awesome merchandise for the race. Runners will traverse through the Mid City neighborhood of New Orleans on their way to City Park and the New Orleans Lake Front before returning to The City Park Festival Grounds for a great finish and fantastic post event party! Each year, we require dozens of volunteers to help perform a variety of tasks, including food service, wristband sales, etc. The t-shirts were ok, not a fan of the color but whatever. Even with that being said, I finished a little faster than I thought I might after the challenging run on Saturday and I managed to put a check mark by Louisiana.

I was in corral 10 the 4:30 estimated finish and it took me roughly 10 minutes to get to the starting line; not bad for so many people. Runners enjoy Louisiana food favorites like Jambalaya and Red Beans and Rice while famous New Orleans musicians entertain the crowds at Lafayette Square. Louis Cemetery, whose graves are all laid out in the cemetery in above-ground sites. However, your browser doesn't appear to allow cookies by default. The last half didn't even have a band. Opinions always seem to vary when it comes to the Rock 'n' Roll Series, but I am a huge fan. Water stations every couple miles were always well staffed, and had plenty of water and Gatorade.

Charles — which hits its turnaround point at the northern end of Audubon Park — the course continues in a roughly northeast direction through the city, taking runners up through the French Quarter where the famed Bourbon Street and the site of Mardi Gras revelry takes place every year along Decatur Avenue, and then turns left onto Esplanade Avenue. Bands every mile or so to look forward to. One of the most important aspects of this course, there is so much to look at. The snacks at the end were sufficient gatorade, banana, water, chips, granola bar. The Mardi Gras Indians — icons of New Orleans culture — will also be on hand to take photos with runners.
Bottom line, this is a fantastic event in a great city. It starts and ends at Lafayette Square. Very hard to keep motived to go the last half. At the finish line as long as you are making an attempt we will wait for you. Only downfall was the start was a little chaotic, the lines for the bathrooms at the start were beyond backed up and there was no pre race water or fuel. Qualifications are as follows: Half Marathon — Past results from 10K, 10 Miles or Half Marathon with a sub 6:50 per mile pace. It was amazing to see so many runners and so much color! Packet pickup spanned a few days at a local running store, and there was no line when I went.
Coinciding with the marathon is an educational and informative Fitness Expo at the New Orleans Convention Center. I can definitely recommend this as a good Louisiana race. They were the highest in the area at 2-8 feet above sea level and the safest during spring floods! Third, there was definitely less music along the course than I was expecting which is why I took off stars. The Rock and Roll race series definitely knows how to put on an event and the New Orleans Marathon was no exception. No cold bagels or pretzel crap. The course goes through French Quarter, Park Land and along Lake Pontchartrain. Luckily I had my own.
